Guide to Choosing an Archery Quiver

By: D Swain

It's important to keep your arrows safe so you don't lose them or injure yourself.  This is why it's so important to have a quality quiver.  Before you buy one, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.  This article will give you a few tips so that you can choose the right one.

Types

There are many different styles of quivers on the market.  One of the most common designs is one that connects to your belt or hip.  This allows you convenient access to your arrows.  However, hunters may find it difficult to go through heavy brush with one on.

There are also quivers that attach to the bow.  Some bow quivers are attached permanently, while others are detachable.  Detachable bow quivers are good because you can remove the weight from the bow before you shoot.  Bow quivers are typically used by field or tournament archers.  Another type of quiver can be stuck into the ground, keeping the arrows upright and easily accessible.  Some ground quivers even have a rack to hold your bow on.

Size

You'll also need to think about the size of the quiver.  Obviously, different quivers can hold a different number of arrows.  Five is usually the minimum, with ten generally being the larger amount.

Rain

You should be aware that rain can ruin glue that attaches fletchings to arrows.  Hunters should consider a quiver with a lid if there's a chance of being caught in inclement weather.

Color

Hunters may even need to pay attention to the color of their potential quiver.  If you want the best chance of staying hidden, you should consider a camouflaged quiver.  You certainly don't want a color that will stand out.
